The American Red Cross Tampa Bay Chapter is assisting the three adults who were displaced by a condo fire late this evening in the 5600 block of Lake Heron Drive near Waters Avenue and Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa. The kitchen fire, which caused moderate damage, meant the renters, two of which are brother and sister, needed the Red Cross to pay for a temporary hotel stay and replacement groceries.

Instead of celebrating Fourth of July as they planned, a Tampa woman and her three children will spend the holiday weekend looking for a new home. Late last night, as their home burned, they stood on the curb, in the rain, under the care of Red Cross volunteers and watched fire fighters fight the flames. The American Red Cross Tampa Bay Chapter has provided the family with temporary lodging and emergency assistance in the form of replacement clothing and groceries to help them start the recovery process.

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Safety Town (located between Hays Road and Shady Hills Road on SR 52, approximately eight miles east of U.S. Highway 19), seasoned Red Cross disaster workers will lead new volunteers through exercises that simulate opening, operating and closing evacuation shelters.
