Red Cross Shelters

Safety is the primary consideration for the American Red Cross in selecting hurricane evacuation shelters

Most people recognize the Red Cross from the support in sheltering that we provide during hurricane season. Sheltering may be the most visible aspect of what we do during hurricane season, but there is so much more involved before, during and after the storm strikes. We partner with local, state and federal governments; community organizations; and individuals and corporate supporters to provide emergency shelter, food, health and mental health services and resources and referrals to aid in recovery. We also provide canteen support (snacks and beverages) to the emergency workers who are the first to respond when such a disaster strikes.

To locate a shelter nearest to you, view the Red Cross Shelters in your area.

**Please note: though a shelter appears on this map, it may not be activated during a disaster. We open shelters based on need in given areas as well as the movement of the storm. Again, your safety is our primary concern in selecting what shelters to open in the event of an evacuation.

During a disaster you can find which shelters are open at http://www.redcross.org/nss/.
